We are headquartered in Silicon Valley and are funded and supported by some of the most preeminent venture capital teams.We are currently looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer with a strong background in optimizing conversational AI systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in deploying and fine-tuning large language models, building scalable NLP pipelines, and improving the efficiency of conversational models in production environments. This role will be instrumental in ensuring our platform's AI-driven interactions are both fast and reliable for users, including healthcare providers and patients.Ellipsis Health is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, but we are open to remote candidates for this role.RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and implement guardrail mechanisms to ensure safe, compliant, and contextually appropriate responses from conversational AI models.Define, implement, and maintain robust evaluation frameworks to measure system safety, fairness, and overall performance, guiding continuous improvement efforts.Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with healthcare privacy, compliance, and regulatory standards in AI-driven interactions.Establish monitoring, automated testing, and auditing processes to detect and mitigate harmful, biased, or non-compliant content in real-time.Provide clear documentation and training on best practices for responsible AI usage within a healthcare context.REQUIREMENTSDegree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.5+ years of ML engineering experience, with a strong track record in setting guardrails, safety measures, and evaluation methodologies for NLP and conversational AI systems.Proven ability to design and apply metrics, testing frameworks, and ethical guidelines to ensure model safety and fairness.Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with common NLP/Speech/ML frameworks.Experience working with compliance, privacy, and regulatory requirements, especially within the healthcare domain.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a commitment to ethical and responsible AI deployment.Ellipsis Health is an inclusive company where diversity is celebrated.
