Job Description:
Role OverviewThe Middle School Director of Culture & Climate
role is critical in achieving a truly inclusive, joyful, and safe
learning environment for all students and families. Beginning with
setting a vision for a positive campus culture in which all members
of the community feel a strong sense of belonging, this leader
develops, implements, and refines the expectations, systems, and
processes necessary for that vision to be realized. They
collaborate consistently with other members of the leadership team,
teachers, support staff, students, and families to ensure that both
proactive and responsive supports are in place for members of the
community.Qualifications--- Deep belief in New School San
Francisco's mission, vision and values (required)--- Bachelor's
degree (required)--- Extensive experience and passion for working
in a school with middle schoolers (required)--- Proven record of
collaborating well on a team and building relationships with
students and families (required)--- Specialized behavior training
(e.g. Restorative Practices, Applied Behavior Analysis, Crisis
Prevention and Intervention) (strongly preferred)--- Experience as
a school leader and/or administrator (strongly preferred)---
Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)--- CA Administrator's credential
(preferred)Competencies--- Ability to build partnerships and trust
across lines of difference with students, families, and
educators--- Ability to set and lead towards a compelling vision of
excellence for program-wide culture & climate--- Familiarity and
experience with implementation of Restorative Practices, PBIS,
behavior training across different school settings--- Strong
communication and interpersonal skills; preferably bilingual in
Spanish--- Exceptional organizational and project management
skills--- Comfortable working within a diverse, collaborative
environment with openness to giving and receiving feedback--- A
deep belief that all students will meet our vision and goals, tied
to a unfailing commitment to equity in education--- Love for middle
school students and skill in navigating middle school
behaviorResponsibilities--- Evolve and collaboratively lead towards
school vision for an inclusive, joyful, and safe learning
environment for students, staff, and families--- Lead decision
making for and implementation of interventions and consequences for
behavior (e.g. lead restorative circles with students, families,
and staff as applicable when harm is caused)--- Facilitate
professional development and coach teachers--- Lead student-facing
culture & climate initiatives, e.g. facilitate student council,
lead middle school meetings (assemblies), facilitate small groups
focused on socio-emotional learning--- Lead family-facing culture &
climate initiatives, e.g. facilitate family workshops, events, and
engagement opportunities--- Collaborate with others to lead MTSS
processes to ensure data-informed tiered behavioral and academic
supports across the middle school program--- Facilitate 504
meetings--- Consistently collaborate with student, family, staff,
and leadership stakeholders to ensure alignment across program---
Perform all other duties as assigned.
