Join Us as the Director of the San Francisco Senior Center - Be
a Catalyst for Positive AgingSequoia Living is looking for a
dynamic, mission-driven leader to serve as the Director of the San
Francisco Senior Center (SFSC) overseeing two centers, Downtown and
Aquatic Park. In this pivotal role, you'll shape the strategic
direction of one of the Bay Area's most respected senior centers,
leading a dedicated team and delivering innovative programming that
reflects the vibrancy and diversity of our community. Lead and
manage all aspects of SFSC operations, ensuring smooth, efficient,
and welcoming experiences for participants, staff, and community
partners. Maximize facility use while cultivating a center that
serves as a hub for connection, lifelong learning, wellness, and
civic engagement.What You Will Do:
- Collaborates with Sequoia Living leadership to ensure SFSC
serves Sequoia Living organizational mission, objectives, and
values. Articulates, implements, and evaluates strategic direction
and goals of SFSC to promote operating success and financial
sustainability.
- Hires, manages, motivates supporting staff and approves
departmental structure in accordance with established standards,
procedures, and regulatory compliance. Provides leadership to staff
and sets expectations of integration of Sequoia Living programs and
new senior center models into center operations.
- Ensures rich, diverse, and relevant program offerings,
including the provision of meals, fitness programs, art and other
classes, as well as civic engagement opportunities. Develops both
special and ongoing activities. Promotes cultural competency
initiatives and ensures programming is responsive to ethnic and
cultural diversity of existing and prospective participants.
- Provides ongoing management of landlord relationships and
fulfills lease compliance. Oversees safety and security of sites.
Maximizes facility utilization and upkeep. Optimizes use and
appearance of space. Ensures good sanitation practices and hygiene
in the physical plants.
- Develops budgets, manages costs, and generates revenues
consistent with mission. Oversees smooth and timely financial
planning, reporting, and processing. Exercises leadership and works
collaboratively with Senior Services Northern California to
continue current fund-raising activities. Cultivates, secures, and
maintains new funding sources. Oversees grant administration.
- Establishes and ensures maintenance of data systems, as
required by funding agencies, that record census, utilization of
programs, and unduplicated counts of participants. Ensures reliable
data collection on participation and qualitative measurements on
program impacts, budget development and compliance.
- Cultivates good relationships with participants, team leads,
partners, surrounding community representatives, and other
stakeholders and sets a positive example for staff.
- Exhibits leadership in local and national arenas in promoting
senior centers; cultivates relationships with public officials and
organizations that advocate for seniors, including Disability and
Aging Services (DAS).
- Represents SFSC as Sequoia Living ambassador to larger
community. Highlights innovative SFSC initiatives that promote
lifelong learning, emotional and physical health, wellbeing and
successful aging.
- Collaborates within Community Services in shaping and
implementing strategic initiatives for SFSC. Revises program
strategy for generational cohorts and promotes best practices in
engagement. Analyzes program, local, and national data to identify
and respond to senior center trends; builds coalitions and garners
support from a wide variety of sources in order to advance the
strategic goals and objectives of SFSC.
- Oversees department workplace safety and risk control programs
to ensure employees are provided education and training regarding
safe work practices and occupational exposure. Ensures all
workplace injuries are reported and investigated in a timely and
thorough manner in accordance with Sequoia Living procedures. Works
with Human Resources and employees regarding Return-to-Work program
and Workers Compensation Leaves of Absence when applicable.

- You like your days to be varied, can handle a fast-paced
environment, and don't mind working under pressure.
- Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Recreation Therapy Social Work
or related field required, Master's degree desirable. Minimum of
five (5) years' senior or community center programming and
management experience, including three (3) years supervisory
