The Fleet team at OpenAI supports the computing environment that powers our cutting-edge research and product development. We oversee large-scale systems that span data centers, GPUs, networking, and more, ensuring high availability, performance, and efficiency. Our work enables OpenAI's models to operate seamlessly at scale, supporting both internal research and external products like ChatGPT. We prioritize safety, reliability, and responsible AI deployment over unchecked growth.As a Software Engineer, Snapshot Delivery within the Fleet team, you will be responsible for capturing and delivering data snapshots, ensuring the reliability of backup and recovery systems. Your work will be critical in maintaining data integrity, availability, and supporting the continuity of OpenAI's research and development efforts. This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We operate on a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.In this role, you will:

• Design and implement reliable backup and recovery systems to safeguard OpenAI's critical data.
• Develop automated solutions for capturing and delivering data snapshots across large-scale infrastructure.
• Ensure data integrity and availability within OpenAI's proprietary data centers.
• Collaborate with engineering, infrastructure, and research teams to align data management strategies with organizational needs.
• Monitor, diagnose, and resolve data-related issues to maintain operational continuity.You might thrive in this role if you:
• Have 5+ years of experience in data management, backup, and recovery systems within large-scale environments.
• Are skilled in designing and implementing data protection solutions.
• Have experience with automation tools for data capture, storage, and recovery processes.
• Understand data integrity principles, storage systems, and high-availability architectures.
• Are detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of troubleshooting complex data-related issues.
