Master's Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications,

only one amount.This position supports the California Department of
Public Health's (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by strengthening
the state environmental public health and laboratory testing
program.The incumbent works under the supervision of the Research
Scientist Supervisor I (Microbiological Sciences) [RSS I (MS)], the
incumbent serves as a Research Scientist I (Microbiological
Sciences) [RS I (MS)] in the Food and Drug Laboratory Branch,
Microbiology Section, Microbiology Testing Unit. The incumbent
plans and carries out scientific research of limited scientific
scope and complexity such as method development and improvement and
participates in the planning and conduct of broad or complex
analytical investigations relating to microbial contamination of
food products (including human food, animal food and food defense
products) and environmental samples. This includes, but is not
limited to, isolation, identification and characterization of a
variety of pathogens, primarily bacterial, but can also include
viral, fungal, and parasite pathogens. The incumbent will use
standard operating procedures to work on product and environmental
samples submitted to the laboratory for analysis. The incumbent is
responsible for pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical
parts of the investigations, which includes processing of samples
for enrichment, carrying out analysis for identification and
confirmation of pathogen isolated by Polymerase Chain Reaction
(PCR), VITEK2 Compact (Biomerieux Inc.).Working ConditionsTelework
InformationThis position may be eligible for telework. The amount
of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is
subject to change, consistent with CDPH's Telework Program. All
employees who telework are required to be California residents in
accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside
outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the
selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of
California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain
California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet

may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes
