Job Description:

The Failure Analysis team's mission is to determine root cause and contributing factors to improve the experience of Tesla's Energy/Vehicle Products by reducing field issues, in collaboration with a large cross-section of other engineering teams. Engineers and Technicians on the team are responsible for a wide variety of Energy Product systems like Powerwall, Megapack, and Supercharger. This is an individual contributor role with great internal visibility that requires extensive hands-on work focused on failure analysis and root cause activities.We are seeking a multi-faceted individual who will be responsible for all aspects of identifying, analyzing, root causing, implementing countermeasures, and reporting on issues affecting systems including power electronics, low voltage, and battery systems, among others.To be effective in this role, the engineer will need to be intimately familiar with the detailed behavior of these electro-mechanical components and the tools and equipment used in their design and manufacture. They will work with other engineering teams to root cause and implement countermeasures of field issues to improve the quality, reliability, and durability of the products.Tesla offers the opportunity to work on industry-leading products and bleeding-edge technology in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high visibility role.What You'll Do

  • Drive issue resolution from root cause analysis to countermeasure implementation on electromechanical components from Tesla's Energy Products.
  • Investigate system assemblies, modules, components to identify root causes of failure in Tesla's Energy products.
  • Design and conduct fault replication tests on power converters and low voltage PCBA's, including board rework and FW/HW testing.
  • Collaborate with appropriate engineers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to drive resolution to the identified failure causes.
  • Provide inputs to design and manufacturing teams to improve design and production yield.
  • Support design reviews and DFMEAs based on prior failure experience.
  • Candidate should be detail-oriented with excellent communication skills.What You'll Bring
    • Degree or relevant experience in Electrical/Electronics Engineering.
    • Strong demonstrable experience in Power Electronics/power converter circuits for energy storage/automotive applications.
    • Electrical/Electronic design experience is a strong plus.
    • Strong demonstrable hands-on experience with electrical test equipment: Power Supplies, Multimeter, Oscilloscopes, and other common equipment.
    • Extremely proficient at reading schematics and troubleshooting analog and digital circuits.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
    • Experience with hand tools, basic power tools, soldering, and instrumentation is desirable.Compensation and BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:

      • Employee discounts and perks program.Expected Compensation$85,760 - $197,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits.Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
