About the TeamThe People Programs team at OpenAI plays a pivotal
role in creating an environment where every employee can thrive,

unique culture, and innovative spirit.About the RoleWe are seeking
a seasoned Head of Coaching, Learning and Development to create,
operate and scale several forms of employee enablement and growth,
including our new hire orientation programs and ongoing coaching
and performance enablement. The stakeholders involved have high
expectations and support needs from this role and include all
aspects of OpenAI's leadership and staff across technical and
business functions. The ideal candidate will be a strategic partner
to these teams along with broader HR and Recruiting teams, and
deeply understanding our organizational needs.This opportunity is
particularly exciting for someone with a background in coding,
engineering, or research who can understand the nature of technical
work and help ensure they're set up for early and long-term
sustained success.Your Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Architect, implement, and facilitate
bespoke onboarding, coaching, and development programs tailored to
our fast-paced environment.
- Program Execution & Management: Oversee the effective rollout
and continuous improvement of coaching and development initiatives,
ensuring they deliver tangible results.
- Collaborative Planning: Partner to set the strategic vision for
coaching and development initiatives, aligning with company
objectives and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with HR,
engineering, product, and leadership teams to ensure programs meet
the evolving needs of the organization.
- Scalability & Innovation: Develop scalable, adaptable solutions
that remain relevant in our dynamic startup setting.
- Performance Metrics: Establish metrics and KPIs to evaluate
success, adjusting initiatives based on feedback and data.
- Team Building: Lead and mentor a team of coaching and L&D
professionals, fostering hands-on excellence and professional
growth.We're looking for:
- 15+ years of proven experience in leading L&D or coaching
initiatives, preferably within tech or AI-driven industries.
- Empathy for new OpenAI employees joining one of the most
visible and serious AI companies in the world. You're creative in
finding solutions, and think from first principles.
- Demonstrated ability to design and execute custom training
programs in early-stage companies.
- Strong program execution, management, and analytical skills
with a track record of scaling learning initiatives.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management
skills.
- Familiarity with the latest trends in AI, technology, and
innovative learning practices.Location and Workplace:This role is
based in our San Francisco, CA office and we offer relocation
assistance to new employees. We chose this location due to
proximity to our primary technical and business leaders and staff
and in-person culture of our senior researchers and teams.Our
offices use a hybrid work model: three days in the office per week
with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays. Our
open-plan offices have height-adjustable desks, conference rooms,
phone booths, well-stocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks and
