Provides high level administrative support and/or leads areas of work, including budget processing and project management assistance towards execution of departmental activities. Prepares internal reporting and analysis. Provides support to teams and external stakeholders on content areas.The position of Initiative Associate reports to the Associate Director, Hope SF. The team that makes up the Partnership for HOPE SF works closely with outside partner organizations, consultants, grantees, and funders.The Initiative Associate will support marketing and communications, strategic planning and evaluation, grant making, and consultant management.BoundariesThe Initiative Associate position furthers SFF's mission by building and strengthening relationships within the four HOPE SF communities, HOPE SF CBOs, and the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development in the furtherance of building strong communities within HOPE SF and promoting philanthropy through the HOPE SF Small Grants Program.AuthorityThis position directly leads the HOPE SF Small Grants Program, including all management of Small Grants Program Committee meetings, directing workshops with community, and facilitating the extension of small grants to resident leaders. This position also partners closely with the Communications Team at MOHCD to contribute multiple articles to the quarterly HOPE SF newsletter and manages all HOPE SF social media pages.Role

  • Ongoing relationship building with key partners at MOHCD, HOPE SF residents, community leaders, and CBOs.
  • Contributes to narrative change around lived experience of HOPE SF residents and communities with the HOPE SF newsletter, social media, and HOPE SF website.
  • Creates and leads impactful How to Apply Workshops with residents, breaking down the historically exclusionary grant-making process to be accessible to those approaching the space for the first time.
  • Manages and leads the HOPE SF Small Grants Program, centering resident-led projects to fund resident-centered community development across all four HOPE SF communities.
  • Leads a portfolio of grants (separate from the Small Grants Program) to provide funding for community-based organizations investing in the four HOPE SF communities.
  • Supports the successful launch of the HOPE SF Community Investment Pilot through partnership with MOHCD.Competencies & Qualifications
    • 2 to 4 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in the non-profit, philanthropic, or public sector.
    • Excellent facilitation, listening, oral and written communications skills.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
    • Deep understanding of the Bay Area, its history, and the realities of the region's residents - through intellectual, professional, and lived experience.
    • Demonstrated abilities to build successful relationships with local leaders and organizations; engage people from diverse backgrounds.
